openSUSE 10.3 - back on Linsux

After a few months spent with just running Windows my long awaited openSUSE 10.3 was released and I was happy to grab the GM-ISO-Image just before the release when the mirrors weren’t that loaded. A quick and painless installation on the laptop got me a smooth running desktop OS with everything you need. There is a nice howto for doing this which.Though I didn’t use it I can recommend it to nearly everyone without any experience on installing suse. Everyone else should have a look too. There is some good stuff for everyone …

  1. “Linsux” ? I’m kinda hoping this was a typo.. :) Linux does many things, but it definitely doesn’t suck.

  2. Unfortunately this HOWTO will lead to a lot of users complaining the package management is still much to slow:
You will get a list of predefined online repositories. Select them all to make sure your system can install all available OpenSUSE 10.3 packages if they are needed.

This is a really stupid suggestion, and a total contradiction to http://news.opensuse.org/?p=341#more-341 Note that it should be used with care, however; you should only add an extra repository when you need it and when you know what it will provide. Adding many repositories will slow down your package manager’s start-up time and adding repositories that you don’t know about can ruin your system!

  3. Nice. Wie heißt denn der Font für den Text der Icons?!
